Generic Apology Post

I graduated so now the title of this blog is no longer appropriate. My apologies for allowing the updates to fall by the wayside. I must assure everyone that even if I appear to have fallen off the face of the planet, the artwork has not.

See the current body of work at LydiRaeBlack.com  and the in progress work at Four Days A Week.

I must reccomend the Daily Painters group.

This is a piece about the Winchester Mystery House. I plan to do a couple more- one that I thought I finished turned out to be a draft.

My BFA show opens Tuesday the 18th. I'm -even more- quite busy.

Body of Work

I find it extraordinarily helpful to work on multiple bodies of work at the same time. While these works share a tenuous connection to the previously posted works on abandoned houses, they also cover their own subject matter.

This current work is an allegory of War- Humankind's repeated tendency to armed conflict and the fallout from it. While not a specific portrayal of any particular catastrophe, the work seeks to embody a universal suffering as a result.

A game of catching up.

Been a little while, I'm sorry to say.

As I'm at work I'll keep this short. Here's something I sculpted in Barron Storey's conceptual illustration class.

And something that's a small portion of a large canvas I'm working on. I love how charcoal can look after being worked and re-worked.

New Drawings

This semester has only had one art class in it. I'm not all that disappointed, the only problem is that the other classes are Chemistry, Biology, and other general education units not worth mentioning.

Otherwise, things are going well. So well, in fact, that I'm considering this as a new style.

The entire peice in its shady, blurry glory. It measures 30" wide by 44" high.

Update!

I went to the reception of Barron Storeys' show, Victims, last night. I hope I didn't come off like I feared I did- an over-eager and over-dressed student looming over him trying to get him to sign her book might not have been the best introduction. But he seemed very nice, made eye contact, and even seemed to listen to what I'd been saying. Even though what popped out of my mouth wasn't very coherent. He told me that I would probably enjoy taking his class, which I'm happily taking as permission to add it next semester.

I've been conspicuously absent from this blog for many moons. About 2/3 of the way through last semester i dropped off the face of the planet, mostly because it didn't seem as though it was worth the effort. Well, I'm still alive. Just wasn't in the mood to talk into an empty cardboard box. (Best metaphor for blogging I could think of, sorry.)

Progressions.

Still working on it. It's been suggested that I add the tail end of an Angel wing to the right side of the picture, peeping out from behind the robe.

Also trying to consider placing an item on the engine block. I'm just not sure.
